BASIC MUDRAS

In Sanskrit, mudra means a closure, a stamp. This refers to the positions of fingers, hands and arms, which activate vibrational-energetic processes in man. Most texts offer descriptions of mudras that have developed from the basic ones. Here, it is the very basic ones. It is the very basic ones we wish to clarify. Apart from naming, describing and illustrating each of them individually, we have also offered a brief explanation of their actual effects.

When working with five basic mudras, one should bare in mind the following:

-         position – it is best to sit in a chair, in one of the yogic meditation postures or similar, although it can also be practised while watching TV, in a theatre, on a bus or a train, when just sitting and chatting with friends, etc. The latter applications will naturally yield a lesser effect than the former ones;

-         time – more significant effects are achieved after 3 minutes; there is no maximum time.
